Using photogrammetric modeling in reverse engineering applications: Damaged turbocharger example

نویسندگان

چکیده

Engineering in different areas such as design, manufacture, quality control, research and development, damage analysis, etc. increasingly needs fast, detailed accurate three-dimensional (3D) documentation of mechanical parts. Moreover, not only the production design processes, but also post-production stages, details parts may need to be documented exact dimensions. Identifying an assembly's components their interrelationships, producing new digital 2D-3D models assembly or parts, rebuilding a part assembly, examining ensure tolerances, improving performance if there are any, determining damaged sections some essential applications reverse engineering. The purpose this article is demonstrate implementation low cost scanning system create copies In study, mobile phone-based photogrammetric technique applied obtain 3D model turbocharger car. Firstly, was dismantled into two Both were individually modeled then assembled together. Thus, turbo wings under covers detail. Accuracy analysis terms dimensions performed obtained model. Finally, simple CFD application made on section compressor wheel turbocharger. analyzes showed that less than 0.5 mm accuracy can without difficulty.

Photogrammetric Reverse Engineering of the “angel of the North”

The Department of Geomatics and the Regional Centre for Innovation in Engineering Design in the University of Newcastle upon Tyne collaborated in a project to produce precise measurements for use in the fabrication of the body of the “Angel of the North” sculpture. This 20 m high edifice, by the sculptor Antony Gormley, is located adjacent to the A1(M) in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. This paper re...

Reverse Engineering Heterogeneous Applications

Nowadays a large majority of software systems are built using various technologies that in turn rely on different languages (e.g. Java, XML, SQL etc.). We call such systems heterogeneous applications (HAs). By contrast, we call software systems that are written in one language homogeneous applications. In HAs the information regarding the structure and the behaviour of the system is spread acro...

Reverse Engineering Python Applications

Modern day programmers are increasingly making the switch from traditional compiled languages such as C and C++ to interpreted dynamic languages such as Ruby and Python. Interpreted languages are gaining popularity due to their flexibility, portability, and ease of development. However, these benefits are sometimes counterbalanced by new security exposures that developers are often unaware of. ...

Reverse engineering Java Enterprise Applications in Eclipse

Java Enterprise Applications (JEAs) are complex systems composed of various technologies and programming languages other than Java, such as XML or SQL. In this heterogenous context, information is spread across various components and languages and the interactions between different application elements could be hidden. On the other hand, existing reverse engineering and quality assurance techni...

Reverse-engineering Distributed Applications to Understand Their Behaviour Reverse-engineering Distributed Applications to Understand Their Behaviour

Understanding the behaviour of distributed applications is a very challenging task, due to their complexity. To manage this complexity, the top-down use of suitable abstraction hierarchies is frequently proposed. Given the size of distributed applications, manually deriving such abstraction hierarchies seems not realistic. This paper discusses tools that automate the derivation of suitable abst...
